Our story: The secret’s out
Amy’s Secret Kitchen, founded by sisters Amy and Charlotte. It’s a new breed of bakery based on Brown Street, Ponsonby.
“We truly believe in the century old tradition that cake can enhance and improve any situation. A tradition we are adapting for the modern world. Whatever the occasion, say it with cake”. Baked with only the finest ingredients, their treats are truly unsurpassable. Amy’s raw talent has led her to push the boundaries of baking and cake decoration. Her ‘creations’ are nothing less than a masterpiece.
Having grown up baking in the kitchen with their mother and grandmother, they’d had a passion for baking from a very young age. “We’ve loved baking for as long as we can remember”. In 2012, Amy’s Secret Kitchen was launched and Amy and Charlotte officially set on their quest to create the most beautiful and delicious cakes and confectionery for any occasion.
The girls have searched the country for the finest quality ingredients New Zealand has to offer to ensure the taste and quality of their cakes are unsurpassable and irreplaceable. “We go the extra mile to ensure our cakes taste as magnificent as they look. We have always loved the creative side of baking; the presentation and the opportunity to create something that looks as magnificent as it tastes”.
“We work hard to ensure the ingredients we use are in their rawest and most nutritionally rich form, we introduce natural alternatives as a substitute for refined ingredients where possible and have gluten free, dairy free and other alternative options for the more sensitive palate”.
For the love of baking
Amy and Charlotte have been working away perfecting their cakes and challenging some of the baking traditions we have all come to know and [perhaps] tire of a little. “We are always looking for new and exciting ways to push the boundaries of the world and baking and we’re excited to let the world in to our secret world”.

It’s inherent in every spoonful, every stir and every drop of icing that we pour our love of baking into each and every creation.
There’s a special ingredient that goes into everything they do and all the good things they make. It’s an essential addition to ensure all the delicate ingredients and subtle flavours have a chance to mix and mingle, circulate and create an occasion of texture, taste and triumphant celebration.
“We call this vital ingredient, ‘time’. Our Mum taught it to us when we were just four years old, standing on chairs and baking beside her. We were lucky enough to discover our passion for baking at an early age learning first hand through two generations of loving and caring mothers”.
